The Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture (ACCS) lets you explore how the early church read and understood the Bible. Organized book-by-book through the Old and New Testaments, these twenty-nine volumes bring together the voices of the church fathers as they reflect on Scripture, using the Revised Standard Version (RSV) as the base text. This series revives an old tradition—once known as the glossa ordinaria—by gathering ancient insights and making them accessible to modern readers. Scholars have carefully selected and arranged comments from a wide range of early Christian writings, many of which were previously only available in Greek, Latin, or other ancient languages. Each volume offers handpicked reflections known for their clarity, wisdom, and faithfulness to the heart of early Christian teaching.
